2019 - A year in review

We’re a few days into 2020 and with a bit of 2020 vision - last joke honest - I’ve been reflecting back on 2019 and the work Barry Round Table have done. It has been a very busy year again for us.
We started January with our Annual Santa’s Wish night for our Supporters, Local clubs and calendar winners/sponsors for 2018.

Late March we sponsored an award at the inaugural Bro Radio Community Awards and Easter saw our annual Easter Egg giveaway in Barry before our AGM later that day where I was voted in as Chair for 2019/20.

Summer arrives and we got our BBQ out for the Rotary Duck Race and Cadstock. We also took our NERF game to the Scout Fete and Barry Pride.

The BBQ also came out for the Pumpkins in the Park and King Square Lights Switch on where we got Santa in stage to help Nessa switch on the lights.
Prior to Christmas we also helped with the annual Barry Fireworks Fiesta. Whilst inclement weather on the day forced a few changes to our plans the main Fire Act before and after the fireworks was well received and very popular.

Of course Christmas as ever is a busy time of year but as always we arranged for Santa to come to Barry a number of times to take home round the streets of Barry as well as supermarkets.

We also held our third annual Elderly Person dinner in mid-December. December is generally a busy month for us and as ever it was fun taking Santa out round barry to see all the good children.

Two main things happened this year which really stand out; the first was our first Beer Festival in October. A two day event over the Barry Island Sports and Social Club was a lot of fun and a great success. We had a lot of great reviews and positive feedback and we’re already planning the 2020 event.

The other was a personal challenge to me as I helped Zoe with her 30th Birthday challenge. Zoe run’s the Colcot Road COOP and after turning 30 decided to do 30 events. Whilst I did not participate in all I did manage to go to the Cardiff Bay Aqua Park, Invincible, 50’s Fun day, Bingo Night, Quiz Night, Xmas Fayre, Go Ape and Ninja Warrior. Most events I escaped with minimal injury.

As I said ad the start it has been a busy year and I enjoyed all of it with no fuss or whinging - mostly. I and looking forward to rounding off my Year as Chair in April and enjoy a bit of a rest. I would also like to add my thanks to all supporters, helpers and sponsors for their continued support. I won’t name all sponsors in case I miss anyone but from the bottom of my heart to each and everyone of you - thank you. As always we will be out and about at various events this year and I look forward to attending each event as we #DoMore.

Have a great 2020 people and keep and eye out for us throughout Barry.
